Fishing operations
Eskja Ltd. operates one freezer/fresh fish trawler and two purse seiners.  The freezer/fresh fish trawler catches cod and haddock which are delivered to the company's processing plant in Eskifjörður.  Each trip lasts only three to six days at a time and the catch is pre-cooled and well iced in tubs to preserve the quality of the raw material.  The trawler also catches redfish and Greenland halibut that is frozen on board. 

The purse seiners catch capelin, herring and blue whiting in purse seines and pelagic trawls.  Majority of the catch is processed in the company´s Fishmeal and -oil factory in Eskifjörður.  Eskja's purse seiners are always amongst those with the highest catch in the Icelandic fleet.

Whitefish processing

Eskja operates a whitefish processing plant.   The plant was first established in the 1950´s but has been renewed several times since then.    We specialise in processing Cod and Haddock.   Our products are exported fresh and frozen to Europe and the USA.    Sales of fresh loins and fillets have increased over the past few years.   A steady flow of fresh material, and fast processing, is the base for our success in this area.

Eskja has been processing around 3000 tons per year, modest growth in line with investments in additional quotas.

Fishmeal & oil factory

Eskja is one of the biggest producers of fishmeal in Iceland.  The factory today is on of the best equipped in Iceland, with capacity to process over 1000 tons per day.  The factory has Hetland indirect hot air driers.  Main products being;  LT meal, NSM and Standard meal.
